Sharp Signs with Carl Sandburg
December 17, 2009

Mirek Sharp of the Oakville Royals Baseball Club has decided to continue his education at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg Illinois.  Mirek joined the Royals in August and has been an impact player from the very start.

Mirek is not a player that comes around every day; he has shown great commitment and dedication, driving from Guelph for every practice.   Sharps worth ethic and attitude are the exact foundation the Royals Baseball Club was built on.  Over the past few months Mirek has established himself as a go to guy in the program, he has become a team leader and a major key to the success of our offence.  This season Mirek will be manning the middle infield for the Royals and also eating up some innings on the mound.

Coach Lindburg says "I am very excited about the opportunity to coach Mirek; he has very strong fundamentals and baseball instincts.  He will have the opportunity to be in our middle infield next season.  One of Mirek strengths is his defence, and his speed will be an asset to our program."

The Oakville Royals would like to congratulate Mirek and the Sharp family, for this latest achievement in his baseball career.  We would also like to thank Coach Lindburg and Carl Sandburg College for there continued interest in the Oakville Royals Baseball Club.

Royals catcher Edward "eddie" Largy has signed with Illinois’ Carl Sandburg Community College where he will continue his education while becoming the CSC "Chargers" starting catcher. Eddie is in his third year as a member of the Oakville Royals and has now seen his Royals career come to fruition.

When people talk about the Oakville Royals and what it takes to don the Royals uniform, people talk about a player like eddie.  Since the first day that eddie walked through the front door if the organization he knew he could be something special.

Largy has taken his passion and dedication for the game of baseball and coupled it with a desire to get a quality post secondary education. Royals 18U Head Coach Jason Booth says that "the drive and desire eddie shows at games and practices is unparalleled in relation to most players that I have seen. Eddie not only possesses the athletic ability, but also the mental ability and self discipline to play at the next level."

Coach Booth also says "I have had the opportunity to coach eddie for two years and have really seen him grow as a person and as an athlete. The next two years are going to be very special. As coaches, we always talk about a player’s athletic ability and not enough about a player’s character. Eddie has a very strong character. Not only is he a leader but his passion for winning and team success is what every college coach wants in his program. As a player, eddie is a strong defensive Catcher who can call a game and DH. He’s a complete package."

Carl Sandburg Chargers Head Coach T. J. Lindburg says, "We’re looking forward to having eddie behind the plate for us in 2011.  Eddie is going to be a very strong defensive catcher, and will also help us offensively.  I am looking for Carl Sandburg to compete for a Conference Championship in the next two years and I believe eddie can help take us there."

The Oakville Royals would like to congratulate eddie and the Largy family, for this latest achievement in eddie’s baseball, and athletic, career. We would also like to thank Coach Lindburg and Carl Sandburg College for their continued interest in, and support of, the Oakville Royals Baseball Club.

February 5, 2010:  Royals Outfield Mitchell Mattarollo has signed with Carl Sandburg Illinois.  Mitch has been with the Royals for two seasons and will be back in the outfield in 2010.  This is the third Royals player to sign with CSC "Chargers" this spring.  Mitch was seen by the Chargers while playing against them on the Royals annual fall trip.

This winter Mattarollo has been working hard with offensive approach and has become stronger in the weight room.  Coach Booth says, "The adjustments that Mitch has been able to make since our fall season is not only going to help us this spring, but will help him be a more complete college player.  This team could be very strong, and I am looking for Mitch to lead us on and off the field.

Carl Sandburg Chargers Head Coach T. J. Lindburg says, "Mitch is going to be a big asset to our outfield and the future for the program looks very promising.  The addition of Mattarollo secures one of our Outfield spots for the next two seasons, I am looking forward to having him in a Chargers uniform.

The Oakville Royals would like to congratulate Mitchell and the Mattarollo family, for this latest achievement in Mitchell’s baseball, and athletic, career. We would also like to thank Coach Lindburg and Carl Sandburg College for their continued interest in, and support of, the Oakville Royals Baseball Club.

February 22, 2010:  Dalton Pompey a center fielder with the Royals has decided to continue his education at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The cougars compete in the NAIA and are in the Mid Central Conference. In 2010 the cougars had a school record breaking 32 wins, and competed for a conference championship.

Dalton will follow a line of Canadians that have attended USF in the past few years.  Canadian recruiting started for USF, when current Royals Head Coach Jason Booth was the pitching coach for the Cougars from 2005-2008.  Coach Booth says; "USF is a great school and Dalton is going to get a quality education and a strong baseball experience.  The baseball program has turned a corner in the past few seasons, Coach Roberts has broken the wins record twice.  I know Dalton is going to be a major factor in the future success of the program."

Coach Roberts Says; "I am looking forward to bringing Dalton into the cougar family; he is the player that we have been looking for.  I am expecting him to be in our outfield the next four seasons; it’s nice to have another Canadian on campus. Our team has had a lot success with Canadian players and I know with Dalton signing that is going to continue."

"The Royals have been producing players for years now, every summer I get to see them play on our field in local tournaments.  Its nice to finally bring one in, we missed out on a couple of them last year, I hope this is the start to more Royals coming to USF."

The Oakville Royals Organization would like to congratulate Dalton and his family on signing with the University of Saint Francis.  The Royals would also like to thank Head Coach Greg Roberts and the University of Saint Francis for there support of the organization.

February 14, 2010.  Philip Hinton has decided to continue his baseball career at Kaskaskia Junior College in Illinois.  Kaskaskia is an NJCAA Division 1 Junior college that competes in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.  In 2009 the Blue Devils finished with a record of 49-11 and a Great Rivers Conference Championship.

Philip Hinton is in his third year with the Royals; during his first two seasons he was a catcher and made a position change in 2010.  Hinton’s future was decided after pitching on the Royals annual fall trip and seeing success against college hitters. This winter the dominant Right handed pitcher has made great strides on the mound seeing his Fastball jump in velocity.  The success seen by Coach Booth prompted a phone call and a visit to Kaskaskia from there Phil was a Blue Devil.

Coach Booth says:  "Since making the jump to the mound in August Hinton has shown signs of being a dominant pitcher.  Phil has good days and bad days but that is part of the learning process, he has taken his strong work ethic and put all of his energy into pitching.  Phil saw signs of success on our fall trip as he shut down Flow Valley, IL and had a strong outing against Parkland, the 2009 NJCAA division 2 national champions.  I know over the next 6 months Phil is going to work even harder and come August will be ready to play at the College level.

Coach Koester says:  I am looking forward to having Phil join us at Kaskaskia; he has a live arm and has shown command of the strike zone.  Hinton is a good fit with our pitching staff, we have had a lot of success with Canadian players and I am expecting him to have a very strong career.

The Oakville Royals Organization would like to congratulate Philip and his family on signing with the Kaskaskia Community College.  The Royals would also like to thank Head Coach Mitch Koester and Kaskaskia for there support of the organization.

April 25, 2010.  Jahmal Brooks of the Oakville Royals has decided to continue his education at Alabama State University, an NCAA division 1 institution.  The summer of 2010 will be Brook’s third season playing first base for the Royals.  Jahmal was a two sport athlete all the way through High School, playing both football and baseball.  Just before grade 11 he had to make a decision on what sport he was going to play in University.  The 5’10, 200lbs Brooks said "Baseball was the logical decision; I was a little to small to play football".

Alabama State University competes in the SWAC the South Western Athletic Conference.  Brooks will join one other Canadian at ASU, freshman pitcher Anthony Ricciardi from Toronto, This season the Hornets are 10-17 and sitting fourth in Conference play.

Assistant Coach Macon says; "We are looking forward to having Jahmal in 2011, he fills a power need in the middle of our lineup.  Brooks is a great student and very strong athlete; he is going to excel in the class room and on the field.  Brooks is going to have the chance to play as a freshman. How he does in fall ball will determine his spot on our depth chart".

The Oakville Royals would like to congratulate Jahmal and the Brook’s family, for this latest achievement in Jahmal’s academic, and athletic, career. We would also like to thank Assistant Coach Macon and Head Coach Watkins and Alabama State University for their continued interest in, and support of, the Oakville Royals Baseball Club.

Andrew was recruited by coach Govek throughout the winter and was given a scholarship after he visited Ashford in January.  Andrew has received both athletic and academic money which has equaled to a full tuition scholarship.

Coach Govek says; "Andrew could fill a couple of needs for us, he’s a left handed pitcher and also swings from the left side of the plate.  Andrew will compete for innings out of the pen and have a chance to play first base or DH.  How Andrew does in the fall will determine his role in 2011."

The Oakville Royals would like to congratulate Andrew and the Filler family, for this latest achievement in Andrew’s academic, and athletic, career. We would also like to thank Coach Govek and Ashford University for their continued interest in, and support of, the Oakville Royals Baseball Club.

Chris is in his second season with the Royals and has shown dedication and a strong work ethic since joining the Royals in the fall of 2008.  Ruediger visited a few schools this winter but decided on Morton because of the strong baseball program and the opportunity to pitch as a freshman.

Coach Booth says; Chris has worked very hard over the past two seasons and has established himself as a leader on our staff.  His ability to command the strike zone with all three pitches is going to make him a very strong college pitcher.  I believe he is ready to make the jump into College baseball.”

Coach Knollin says; “Chris is going to get every opportunity this fall to prove himself, he could see a substantial amount of innings as a freshman.  Our pitching staff has thrown the ball well this year, its nice to add another quality arm like Ruediger.”

The left handed hitting middle infielder joined the Royals in the fall and made a dramatic impact from the very beginning.  Jordan had several college opportunities but chose Morton to work with Head Coach Chris Knollin who played college baseball at the University of Florida.  Grant received interest from a few NCAA division 1 schools but felt it would be better to play in the NJCAA before pursuing baseball at the division 1 level.

Coach Booth says; “Jordan is going to have a very strong college baseball career.  The opportunity of working with Coach Knollin is going to give him the coaching he needs to pursue his goal of playing Division 1 level.

Coach Knollin says; “I am looking forward to Jordan joining our program he is the type of player who could make an impact for us next season.  Our program is getting stronger and is moving in the right direction, it’s nice to add Jordan to an already strong group of core players.
