Bio - Mike Steed, Program Pitching Instructor - Oakville Royals Baseball Club- Effective September 15th, 2010

Mike Steed was named Field Manager for the 2010 Thunder Bay Border Cats in September one year after serving as an assistant coach for the club in '09.  The 39 year old Burlington, Ontario native becomes the first Canadian born manager to lead the organization in club history.

Coach Steed has held positions at all levels of the game and has an extensive background in development.  Steed's first coaching position was serving as pitching coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College from 1994 to 1996.  While at NEO five pitchers were selected in the Major League Baseball Entry draft, most notably Chatham, NB native Jason Dickson who was taken in the 6th round by the California Angels.

After returning back to the Toronto area Steed worked for the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club as a senior pitching instructor and clinic speaker for their youth camps and clinics.  Also, during this time, 1997 to 2000 he was the Head Coach and General Manager for the GTA Stars Baseball Club, an 18U AABC elite level club.  While at the helm of the Stars Steed posted at 171-53 record during that time but he is more proud of assisting over 50 players obtain scholarships to play collegiate baseball.

In the fall of 2000 Steed returned to the US and more specifically Michigan where he continued his collegiate and summer coaching career.  During the academic year he was named pitching coach for the Greg Haeger's Madonna University (NAIA) Crusaders.  That summer, 2001 Steed was also pitching coach for the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Leagues Michigan Panthers based out of Ypsilanti, MI.  During that season Steed had the opportunity to coach current Chicago Cubs catcher/1B Jake Fox who attended the University of Michigan.

Steed's next stop in his coaching career came in the form of being named Manager of the Sheboygan A's Baseball Club in the Wisconsin State League.  In his only year with the club Steed posted the second best record in organization history going 49-20.  While in Sheboygan for the summer Steed accepted the position as Associate Head Coach at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI.  Steed spent two seasons, 2002 to 2004 at CUAA was instrumental in improving the programs overall development, recruiting, strength and conditioning approach to improving the institutions student athletes.  During the summer of 2004 Steed returned to the Great Lakes Summer League as Field Manager for the Lake Erie Monarchs with the highlight of the season playing a 14 day tour in the Alaska Baseball League to begin the season.

In 2005 Coach Steed had the opportunity to return to Burlington and was instrumental in the development and inception of an elite baseball program in Oakville, ON.  The Royals Baseball Club.  Steed served as the first Director of Baseball Operations for the organization and was also instrumental in the preparation for the clubs indoor training facility.    While back in Canada Steed also was involved at the provincial and national levels.  In 2005 and 2006 was involved with the Ontario 17U club at the Canada Cup serving as an evaluator and as the teams pitching coach in 2006.  Both years the club won the gold medal at the national event having over 80% selected to the national team selection camp.  Steed worked under Manager Jason Chee Aloy.

Steed also has vast experience working a number of camps most notably Rich Maloney's Baseball Camps at the University of Michigan and has also worked as an Associate Scout for the Minnesota Twins from 2006-2007.

Steed currently serves as a private instructor and resides in Burlington, Ontario with his wife Marlene, has one step son Kyle Bolton (21) who is a senior RHP at Madonna University (MI.).  Steed attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Northeastern State University majoring in Health and Human Performance.  As a player Steed played in the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, CO finishing with a #3 ranking in the country.
